The Wedding of Laura and Lee at St James’ Church, Poole

May 29, 2010 | Posted Under: , | 9 Comments

We headed to my home town of Poole last week to an area I know well, the Quay. Here we shot the wedding of Laura and Lee at St James’ Church in Old Town. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky for the entire Saturday which made for quite a hot and bright day. Although there was a nice breeze coming from the Quay and lots of shady spots things heated up quite considerably when we moved onto the open space of Canford Magna Golf Course for the reception.

Laura didn’t want bridal preps so we were both there to meet Lee and his party before the ceremony.

Lee headed off with his groomsmen to the Custom House on the Quay for a couple of pre-wedding pints.

A random lady enjoying a coffee in the sun helped out Lee with his button hole. Little did she know she’d just put herself up to to about six more. I don’t think she knew what had hit her.

Lee’s Dad joined them for a pint too.

Thirsts quenched we all headed back to St James’ as time was getting on. Not only that but we’d all seen Laura arrive already in her Rolls Royce when we (including the Groom) were on the Quay! We weren’t late, the driver was just playing it safe in the Saturday traffic.

Introducing Laura who wore a beautiful, floating chiffon dress. St James’ has quite a long aisle but for maximum effect her dress came with a separate, longer train. Gorgeous.

There was another wedding at the Church soon after so we just had a bit of time to have a play around Old Town before making our way to the golf club.

Here, the guests enjoyed their Pimms in the blazing sunshine. Summer had arrived.

The balcony had a nice view of the course.

Because it was getting so sunny the meal kicked off soon after.

The speeches took place after the meal. Here, Laura’s Dad and new husband had their say

as well as Lee’s two Best Men.

Once the sun had gone down a little and we could venture outside without the risk of the girls getting frazzled we took some shots around the edges of the course. We were only allowed around some designated bits for fear of us disrupting play and having to dodge flying golf balls.

Laura and Lee had a routine worked out for their First Dance much to the delight of their guests.

Then, the evening started off with a singer.

Things had cooled down a lot on the terrace so the guests could enjoy their drinks in the breeze and enjoy the unspoilt views around them.

Congratulations to Laura and Lee x

The Wedding of Hazel and Lawrence at The Orchid Hotel

May 25, 2010 | Posted Under: , , | 9 Comments

Last week we made our way back to the lovely Orchid Hotel in Bournemouth for the wedding of Hazel and Lawrence. We’d only been there once before in June last year. Unfortunately then, it had been to dark and dreary for an outdoor ceremony in the hotel’s courtyard, and this time it was just as changeable. One day we’ll get there.

It didn’t really matter though as we knew we were in for a treat whether we were indoors or outdoors.

The ceremony took place in late afternoon, and as Hazel didn’t want any coverage of her bridal preps we had plenty of time to catch up with Lawrence and Best Man, Chris.

“Nice suits” I hear you say. Lawrence admits he got inspiration from Ian’s clobber from our own wedding. Any grooms looking for more relaxed three-piece suits with custom tailoring should check out A Suit That Fits - it has a 100% hit rate so far.

Lawrence and Hazel’s lovely Tiffany rings.

Things kicked off in the ceremony room where we all waited for the arrival of Hazel and her bridesmaids.

We appeared to have stumbled across the only Bournemouth Registrar who doesn’t let photographers take lots of images during the ceremony (only in dedicated moments). We still managed to get the essentials though.

Dad played the part of make-up artist for the day…

… Whilst Mum was adamant there should be confetti even if nobody else had any.

Hazel and Lawrence have something in common with us, which is that music is a big part of their lives, and felt it should be part of the wedding day too. So, for the table names there were a selection of album names.

There was:

“Five Leaves Left” - Nick Drake

“Rubber Soul” - The Beatles

“Bringing It All Back Home” - Bob Dylan

“Strange Days” - The Doors

“Still Crazy After All These Years” - Paul Simon

“Pet Sounds” - The Beach Boys

“Exile on Main St.” - The Rolling Stones

Each guest also got their own CD as a wedding favour. Lawrence explained during his speech guests could bargain with each other later to try and get the CD they wanted. It was like a CD Swap Shop!

After the cutting of the cake…

… Things kicked off in the Orchid’s beautiful reception room.

The speeches took place before the meal.

Chris wins the award for the longest Best Man’s speech, ever. I think it clocked in at nearly half an hour. A lot of thought was put into it!

All Father of the Brides should have their own tabard. Just in case.

So, by the time everyone had finished their meals it was getting pretty late. But late days means lovely light and more importantly, an empty beach.

Beach shoot done we got back in our car and took Hazel and Lawrence back to The Orchid. Weirdly, they’d booked one of our best friends to DJ. The very enthusiastic and suitably Muso, Chaka Kant. It was just a complete coincidence, but a very nice surprise.

If you’re looking for a wedding DJ who knows her ABC from her ZZ Top then Charlotte is your lady. There’s no absolute laptop playlist in sight. She will mix her little heart out all night, give you a shimmy whilst she’s doing it and even names her compilation CDs appropriately.

From what we hear everyone had a fantastic, fun-filled night!

Congratulations Hazel and Lawrence xx

In true spirit of the day we thought it was appropriate to also whip up a slideshow which you can view below!

Music: Wouldn’t It Be Nice - The Beach Boys (Pet Sounds)

Wedding Preview: Laura and Lee

May 24, 2010 | Posted Under: , | 2 Comments

We photographed the wedding of Laura and Lee on Saturday making our way to Poole Quay for a ceremony at St James’ Church and then onto the wide open space of Canford Magna Golf Course. Sun tan lotion was essential as there wasn’t a cloud in the sky for the whole day and golf clubs aren’t best known for their shady spots. One the sun was low enough be able to venture outside for a shoot without the risk of getting completely frazzled we managed to find some lovely locations in the Rough. More will follow soon…

On Friday we had a fun time shooting the wedding of Hazel and Lawrence at the Orchid Hotel in Bournemouth.

We love the fact we can make the most of the lighter evenings now so we can take some snaps by the seaside later on in the day. seashoes2.jpg
